Event Details:
Richmond Hill's annual Remembrance Day Ceremony will take place at the Cenotaph in front of the McConaghy Centre. The March of Remembrance will form at 10 a.m. at the northwest corner of Yonge and Wright Streets and will proceed south on Yonge Street at 10:30 a.m. All ex-service personnel are invited to take part in the march to the Cenotaph and residents are invited to attend the service.
Following the service, a reception will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 375, located at 233 Centre Street East. Everyone is welcome.
This year's Remembrance Day ceremony will also include the unveiling of a Veteran Statue. This life-sized, bronze soldier will stand proud outside the Richmond Hill Cenotaph to honour all those that served and continue to protect our country.
At sunset, in memory of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, the Legion, in partnership with the Town of Richmond Hill, will ring the McConaghy Centre bell 100 times. They will toll five seconds apart. This tribute is part of the Royal Canadian Legion’s “Bells of Peace - A Remembrance of Those Who Serviced in the First World War” tribute happening across the country by all Legion branches.
